Up for sale is a rare, turn-of-the-century piece of Wall Street and banking history. This authentic 16" antique wooden ledger board/arch file features a prominent advertising stencil for the private stock brokerage firm Arthur S. Leland & Co., which operated on both the NY and Boston Stock Exchanges until officially dissolving in 1913.
The stenciled print reads:
"ARTHUR S. LELAND & CO."
"25 BROAD ST., N.Y. | 10 POST OFFICE SQ., BOSTON"
"Tel. 4230 Broad | Tel. 1461 Main"
Historical Context:
25 Broad Street was the location of the legendary Broad Exchange Building in Manhattan, which housed elite financial firms steps from the NYSE floor. This piece features incredibly early alphanumeric manual telephone exchange numbers ("Broad" and "Main"), dating it strictly to the early 1900s.
• Dimensions: Measures 16" long by 6 7/8" wide. The lower document section below the clip measures 11 1/2", perfectly sized for early legal-sized stock sheets, ticker tape records, or ledger pages.
• Unique Feature: Securely clamped inside the heavy iron mechanism are the original layered remnants of an antique ledger binding, showing how the firm used this board to bind daily trading records.
• Condition Note: Shows heavy, authentic rustic wear. The top edge of the metal clip mechanism is jagged/broken, and the top filing arches are missing. The wooden board has a beautiful aged patina but features heavy weathering, minor edge chipping, a vertical split near the top hanging hole, and splintering on the reverse.
An incredible, undisturbed conversation piece for collectors of early financial ephemera, Wall Street historical memorabilia, or industrial rustic decor. Sold strictly as-is. Please review all photos closely for detailed condition.
