Antique Late 18th / Early 19th Century Beechwood Skewed Panel Raising Plane
Maker: JOHN GREEN (York, active c. 1780–1808)An early English wooden panel raising (field) plane by prominent York planemaker John Green. Designed with a skewed mouth for cleanly cutting raised/fielded door panels across and with the grain.Features & Markings:
• Maker Stamp: Clearly struck "JOHN GREEN" maker's mark to the toe.
• Owner / User Stamps: Stamped "T. WADDINGHAM" and "W. B. DAVIDSON".
• Iron & Wedge: Complete with original-style tapered skewed double iron (cutter and cap iron) and beech wedge.
• Hardware: Original recessed brass slotted mounting plates on the side and base for fence attachment.
• Timber: Solid English beech with broad flat chamfers and dark, authentic workshop patina.Condition:
• Used antique condition with surface wear, small dings, and historic patination consistent with age and joinery use.
• Missing the adjustable wooden depth and width fences and their securing thumb screws/bolts.
• Iron shows cosmetic surface oxidation/patina as expected from age and will benefit from a sharpen/hone if put back to work.
