Antique 18thC Carved Oak Panel Saint Anthony Abbot Bas-Relief Wood Plaque For Sale

For sale is a magnificent, authentic continental European hand-carved oak bas-relief panel dating to the 18th century or earlier. This striking piece of religious history features a deeply carved, high-relief depiction of Saint Anthony Abbot, traditionally rendered in monastic robes holding his classic iconographic attributes: a staff with a banner/cross in his right hand and a holy book in his left. At his feet sits his symbolic companion animal emerging from flames.

This panel was likely salvaged from an early church interior, potentially a clergy choir stall, pulpit, or historical religious cabinet.

Condition & Authenticity Notes:

• Front: Features a stunning, dry-stripped oak patina that beautifully emphasizes the rustic tooling marks of the master carver. It is currently highly sought after for Haute Époque and historic European interior styling.

• Reverse: Shows spectacular, undeniable evidence of period age. The back is entirely hand-planed with an uneven, wavy adze texture, primitive hand-bored hanging holes near the top edge, and deep, natural historic oxidation/patina that cannot be faked.

• Overall: Excellent antique condition for its age. Structurally solid with expected historic wear, minor edge weathering, and age-appropriate grain splitting that only enhances its authenticity. No modern repairs or alterations.

• Please use the pictures to judge condition for yourself.  This is definitely an early piece which has flaws consistent with age. If you have any questions or need additional photos feel free to contact me being sold as is as pictured as described due to age. Thanks for looking! Measures roughly 15 inches × 11.75 and 0 .75 inches thick
