Antique 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair Columbian Expo Woven Silk Ribbon Souvenir
Nice antique woven in pure silk commemorative ribbon, often referred to as a Stevengraph, produced as a souvenir from the 1893 Chicago World's Fair.
This ribbon was created to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's 1492 landing in America. The ribbon depicts the historical landing of Christopher Columbus in the New World on October 12, 1492, surrounded by figures and flags. Wording on the bottom of the silk souvenir says: "Landing of Columbus Oct. 12, 1492."
The ribbon is attached on the back of a cut-out piece of matting. It is partially loose. The silk ribbon appears to be in good shape. The matting is stained (probably got wet?) See photos.
The silk ribbon measures approx. 8 1/4" long x 2 3/4". The total size with the matting is 9 3/4" long x 6 3/4" tall.
