Antique 1891 Albumen Photo Print Yacht Gitana
Original 19th century 1891 photo print, yacht GITANA, classic wooden keel schooner designed and built by D. J. Lawlor of Boston for William F. Weld II in 1882, one of the fastest of her time.
LOA 114-6ft. LWL 97-4ft. (Lengthened forward and alterations made to her spars by W. B. Smith of Boston in 1886.)

(wiki) Lawlor started his career serving his apprenticeship with Whitmore & Holbrook shipbuilders. He established the Dennis J. Lawler shipyard in East Boston at the corner of Condor and Meridian Streets. He was a shipbuilder and yacht designer for over 40 years. Over 150 merchant vessels were built from his designs. The most notable were the Hesper, Florence, and the D. J. Lawlor.
Exceptionally rare, original, 19th century albumenphotograph print on heavy stock with gold gilt edges to the print of New York Yacht Club (NYYC) yacht Gitana.
Photo was taken by Henry G. Peabody.It was published in Peabody, Henry G. Representative American Yachts. Boston, 1893 and the Library of Congress has a negative of this photo.
This print comes from a compilation of yachting prints produced in the 1890\'s by Henry Peabody. The pictures shown at the end of the listing are of the compilation of these yachting photo/prints by Peabody; this is how they would have been distributed to retailers for sale. I show the pictures so the buyer can see the origin and authenticity of these prints.This listing is for the Gitana print only.
Photo is in excellent condition, some scattered light foxing which is not harmful and authenticates the age of the prints (in addition to the paper stock and gilt (gold) edges.
