This is an exquisite antique ambrotype portrait of a woman from the 1850s. The photograph is a ninth plate ambrotype, showcasing the early photographic technique. This ambrotype interestingly comes without a varnish on the back of the glass, but includes a thing black metal sheet to replace the varnish paint for the ambrotype. It is housed in an original union case, adding to its historical value and charm. The Union case looks to be repaired (photographed) and it does not separate.
