Antique late 1800\'s Italian Catholic devotional prayer card/image of the Santo Bambino di Aracoeli, the revered Christ Child associated with the Church of Santa Maria in Aracoeli in Rome.
The front depicts the richly adorned and crowned Santo Bambino with the caption “S. BAMBINO DI ARACOELI ROMA.” The reverse contains an original Italian devotional prayer headed “Orazione da recitarsi in onore di Gesù Bambino che si venera nella Chiesa di Aracoeli.”
The bottom of the prayer is printed “Modena, Società Lit. S. Giuseppe with what appears to be either 1873 or 1893,” providing strong period dating for the devotional material.
Housed under glass in an ornate antique decorated wooden frame with metal ring hanger and removable backing boards.
Shows considerable age-related wear including toning, foxing/spotting, surface dust, discoloration and wear/loss to the frame finish. The backing components also show age and wear. Please review photographs carefully; the piece has been left in its aged condition. We wiped the dust off the glass frame for photographs, but left everything else as-found so may need further cleaning at your own discretion.
An especially appealing surviving 19th-century Italian Catholic devotional piece with both the Santo Bambino image and accompanying Aracoeli prayer.
