A superb collector’s blanket. Dating from 1890-1900 I estimate, it’s a herringbone weave, woven with a double yarn giving a flecked effect and making the blanket heavy and warm! Woven on a narrow loom and then two lengths of cloth sewn together to make a wider blanket. The colours are undyed cream with a crushed raspberry pink, coal black and a fine line of pale blue. All these colours are woven together to create a stunning effect on this pretty rare blanket. Apart from it being woven on a narrow loom, it is what used to be known as a true Carthenni with fringes on all four sides. This blanket is probably one of the very best I’ve owned over the years. It now needs to go to a collector of these beautiful textiles as they are becoming more and more rare.
Measurements are approximately 92” by 74” (234cm by 188cm) excluding the fringes which are 2.5” and 3” long
Given its age, I would say it’s in superb vintage condition, a few tiny flaws which I’ve photographed in close up but in reality are barely noticeable. Please view the pics carefully to satisfy yourself as to appearance and condition.
Please bear in mind that this rarity will need extra insurance on the shipping.
