Angelo Minghetti Bologna Madonna & Child Italian Majolica Faience Pottery For Sale

This Majolica Faience figurine of the Madonna and Christ Child by Angelo Minghetti (1882-1885) represents the signature qualities Minghetti is known for--exquisite hand-painted coloring, elaborate details and fine workmanship. This piece is especially desirable as it has no chipping, flaking or damage and has been well-cared for over the years. It measures 8.5\" tall, 5.5\" wide and 1.25\" deep, weighing a little over a pound at 18.3 ounces. It is signed on the back with Minghetti\'s customary * (asterisk) and \"M\" and the city Bologna, where he founded his own ceramic workshop after studying at the Academia di Bella Arto di Bologna. His studio remained open after his death until 1967. Minghetti found inspiration from Renaissance sculptor Luis della Robbia, especially regarding his colorful tin-glazed earthenware. Today Minghetti\'s works can be found at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. This Madonna and Child figurine is an exquisite example of his work.
