Ancistrolepis grammatus (Dall, 1907) — Exceptional Japanese Deep-Water Specimen
An outstanding example of Ancistrolepis grammatus, a fascinating marine gastropod from the cold, deep waters off eastern Hokkaido, Japan.
Measuring an impressive 93.8 mm, this specimen displays extraordinary spiral sculpture, with deeply pronounced, raised ribs extending across its beautifully formed shell. Its warm golden-tan body whorl transitions into rich chocolate-brown tones toward the spire, creating a striking, almost woodlike appearance.
Especially noteworthy is the original operculum, accompanied by preserved organic material and periostracum, contributing to the specimen's remarkable natural character.
