Ancient Hebron (Kano) beads, rare blue strand 1 For Sale

In the 1800s, Hebron\'s glass artisans began producing beads for trade., gaining popularity in African regions, notably among the Igbo and Yoruba tribes in Kano, Nigeria. These distinctive beads were made with salts from the Dead Sea and sand from Bani Na?im, present a uniquely eroded appearance. The Yoruba tribe of Nigeria valued large beads as symbols of wealth, and modified the original beads by grinding down their sides for uniformity when strung on raffia. Because of the location of this reworking of the beads, they became known as \"Kano Beads,\" underscoring their importance in trade networks connecting Africa, Palestine, and Egypt. Yellow is perhaps the most common dominant color of these increasingly uncommon beads, followed by green and blue.
