***I travel often, I have a 5 business day shipping handling time between purchase and shipping. Please keep in mind when purchasing. I have shops out of town, so I am on the road quitea bit.
Shipping: I know shipping has gotten pricey. I can\'t help that. I try to make it as cheap as possible with box size but I have had a couple of recent items damaged. So I will use bigger boxes and double box when possible. It will add more to the shipping but that is the reality now. Thanks.
About 5 years ago I helped out at an estate sale in La Jolla, CA. It was the estate of ProfessorSia Nemat-Nasser. He was a professor of mechanics and materials in the Dept. of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineeringat the University of California San Diego (UCSD). He had many pieces of ancient Roman Greco pottery and tiles such as this one. They referredto these asFirst Period or Regal Period. Not sure if this is exactly that period but not later than the 3rd century ad from my research.
This is an ancient Greco Roman mosaic tile remnant made from stone and marble tesserae (cubes) set into a mortar bed using traditional techniques. The image depicts an avian figure (resembling a duck or goose) surrounded by curving scrollwork or vine motifs, characteristic of ancient Roman and early Byzantine church or villa floors.
It is in as found condition, you can see it has been broken and repaired with missing tiles and one corner is chipped with missing tiles.
The tile is about 11 1/2\" x 11 1/2\" x just over 1\" thick. It weighs 10 lbs 4 oz before packing.
