BACKGROUND: Alberto Terrones was a Mexican American day laborer who was shot and killed by police for allegedly stealing a can of ham at a Luckysupermarket in Fairway Park, San Francisco in 1974. What is important to note about his killing isthat Terrones was fleeing across a parking lot when he was shot several time in the back by multiple police officers. At first the police claimed that Terrones resembled a wanted murderer, but quickly retracted the claim after they could not namethecriminal. The killing provoked a riot byChicano\'s in San Francisco demandingan end to police violence against their community.
