Dear Sir
In response to your request—I may tell you that during the Great War I was the British Naval Commander in Chief in the East Indies (during 1914–1916), when the allied Squadron under my command was mainly responsible for the safety of the Suez Canal at the time of the Turkish attack in February 1915.— A portion of my squadron subsequently carried out a bombardment of the Smyrna forts as a part of the Dardanelles operations.—
