Abraham Lincoln autograph legal document unsigned, regarding the 1841 case of Hay v. Bryan, where Lincoln\'s client, Nathaniel Hay sued Nicholas Bryan for an unpaid debt. In this handwritten missive, Lincoln writes,
\"Nathaniel Hayvs AttachmentNicholas Bryan
The plaintiff in this case now prays the answer of Philip S. Kreigh, who has been summoned as a garnishee herein, to the following interrogatories [by the] Court:\"
Philip S. Kreigh owed money to Bryan, which was ultimately garnished to partially pay Bryan\'s debt to Hay, although Hay would go on to sue Bryan twice more for the uncollected portion. Bryan was ultimately convicted of trying to hide his assets from Hay. This was one of Lincoln\'s first cases working alongside his mentor Stephen T. Logan, whose firm he joined in 1841.
