Description
Up for sale is a stunning, exceptionally long ~19-foot strand of authentic 1930s mercury glass Christmas tree garland. Made in Japan during the pre-WWII era, this magnificent strand features highly collectible, vibrant multi-colored faceted beads with repairs made with round mercury beads.
What makes this particular piece an incredible find for advanced holiday collectors is that it retains its original terminal ends intact. Most of the connected ends feature the original twisted wire loops and the highly sought-after stamped silver foil star-shaped cardboard disc which served as factory bead-stoppers.
Given its impressive 19-foot continuous length, this was likely assembled by a previous owner decades ago to create one long, seamless drape for a mantle or holiday display.
Condition Note (Please Read)
This garland is in very good antique condition for its age, displaying beautiful age-appropriate patina and vibrant, translucent lacquer colors.
Please note that this item features charming period "make-do" repairs. Over its lifetime, sections of the fragile faceted beads were replaced with smooth round mercury glass beads to fill in gaps. There may also be a few minor scuffs, finish loss, or tiny flea bites typical of paper-thin 1930s glass. The cotton string is original and should be handled with gentle care. It is being sold exactly as found and pictured.
