A quite stunning, large single blade lock back Jack Knife with beautiful stag scales. Hunter & Son trace their origins back to 1760. I believe this one dates to the era of Michael Hunter III (1800 – 1886), by which time the firm was operating out of the Talbot Works in Sheffield. This would also appear to match with the blade inscription and Bugle mark.
Measures approximately 4 5/8 inches long overall, closed. Spear blade measures approximately 3 7/16 inches long, edge only. Obverse tang stamped “Hunter & Son Sheffield”. Obverse blade stamped “Talbot Works” and with the Hunter Bugle mark. Stunning gnarly stag scales secured by five pins, the obverse with an oblong unengraved shield. Nickel silver pinched bolsters. Brass liners. Provided in a microfiber drawstring pouch.
Good snap to blade. Solid lock up with some slight side to side wobble. Light staining to the blade. Staining to the spring. Scales good with no chips or cracks. A rare find in this condition.
