The socket/switch has a two-pin system for “hot” and “neutral” wiring. They are color coded. The yellow-brass screw is for hot, and the white brass screw is for neutral. The rotary switch has three settings. On/high (100% of the bulb’s rated wattage), on/low/dimmed (approximately 50% of the bulb’s rated wattage), and off. This feature allows you to turn any incandescent E26 bulb into a dimmable bulb, so it’s no longer necessary to purchase three-ways if your needs aren’t that specific.
