A Touch of History: Five Antique Iron Cannonball Fragments — Historic Artifacts with Sculptural Character
More than fragments of iron. Tangible reminders of history that have endured across centuries.
Offered here are five original cast-iron fragments from historic cannonballs, believed to be approximately 320 years old. The fragments are associated with cannonballs measuring 4.60 inches and 6 inches in diameter.
Each piece was personally discovered by me. These are not modern reproductions, artificially aged replicas, or mass-produced objects. They are genuine fragments of historical objects, each retaining its own distinctive shape, rugged texture, and natural signs of age.
When History Becomes Art
Look at the photograph showing the five fragments carefully stacked one upon another. Their irregular silhouettes, weathered surfaces, natural fractures, and interplay of light create a striking visual presence.
The arrangement resembles an ancient stone tower, an abstract sculpture, or a monument to the passage of time.
Objects once associated with the destructive power of warfare can acquire an entirely different meaning centuries later. Today, these fragments can become objects of contemplation, sources of creative inspiration, or pieces of art that invite us to reconsider the relationship between history, time, and transformation.
Perhaps this is one of the most fascinating qualities of historical artifacts: they continue to tell their stories long after their original purpose has disappeared.
For Those Who See More Than an Object
This unusual group of historical fragments may appeal not only to military history enthusiasts and antique ordnance collectors, but also to:
* Artists and sculptors — as distinctive elements for original sculptures, mixed-media works, or conceptual art projects.
* Interior designers and decorators — as conversation pieces for studies, libraries, studios, galleries, or carefully curated interiors.
* Creative makers and craftspeople — as potential components for unique, one-of-a-kind artistic creations.
* Collectors of historical artifacts — as an opportunity to acquire genuine fragments of the past.
* History enthusiasts and philosophical thinkers — as tangible reminders of time, human history, and the extraordinary ability of objects to survive across generations.
* Filmmakers, theater professionals, and exhibition designers — as potential historical display pieces or project materials, subject to the requirements of their intended use.
Authenticity That Cannot Be Reproduced
Each fragment is made of original cast iron, not a modern reproduction. All five pieces were personally found by me; this is not simply the resale of someone else’s collection.
The fragments are associated with cannonballs measuring 4.60 inches and 6 inches in diameter. Their precise historical origin, dating, and context may be of further interest to collectors and researchers. The approximate age of 320 years should be understood as an estimate unless independently documented.
Every fragment is different. Each has its own contours, surface texture, and pattern of weathering. No two pieces are exactly alike.
One Object, Many Possible Stories
These fragments can be preserved as historical finds, displayed individually, arranged as a sculptural composition, or used as the starting point for an original creative project.
Their powerful, irregular forms invite us to see them not merely as remnants of historic ammunition, but as objects with a distinctive visual identity of their own.
Perhaps their next chapter will begin with you.
You are acquiring more than old iron. You are acquiring genuine fragments of the past that may become part of a personal collection, an artistic creation, a distinctive display, or an entirely new idea.
History does not always survive intact. Sometimes, a single fragment is enough to make its presence felt.
