The ' Rhade 'were the largest of the Montagnards Tribes to fight against the Viet Cong inthe MOBILE GUERRILLA FORCES ( MGF ) - Fighting primarily along the border areaof Vietnam and Cambodia ( both sides of the border ) they were an eliteairborne Special Forces unit under direct command of the US Special Forces.
Named theKhmer Serei (Soldier of the Free Cambodia Movement , anti Communist ) theywere mostly recruited from a US Special Forces Camp at Bu Dop pre 1967 andthereafter (as Bu Dop was dried up ) from Cao Lanh near Saigon.
The Montagnard/ Khmer Serei were taller and physically stronger than the Vietnamese. TheKhmer Serei had been drafted by the South Vietnam government into the CIDG(Civilian Irregular Defence group) and from there were recruited into the MGF(under the direct and almost automonous command of US Special Forces Commander,Bo Gritz), they operated primarily in War Zone C.
