Camarasaurus was a large herbivorous sauropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic Period, around 145 to 155 million years ago. Measuring up to 18 meters long and weighing approximately 25 tons, it was smaller than some of its sauropod contemporaries, such as diplodocids and brachiosaurs, but it was still one of the dominant plant-eating dinosaurs of its ecosystem.

This Jurassic dinosaur had a robust, muscular build with strong legs, a thick tail, and a sturdy neck to support its massive frame. Its snub-nosed skull and chisellike, spoon-shaped teeth were perfectly adapted for efficiently cutting and eating plants, making Camarasaurus an effective browser. Adult Camarasaurus were generally too large to be attacked by predators, though Allosaurus may have targeted juveniles.

Camarasaurus is easily identified by its shorter neck and tail, rounded skull, and nostrils positioned in front of the eyes, unlike brachiosaurs (nostrils above the eyes) or diplodocids (nostrils at the tip of the snout). These features highlight its unique adaptations among Late Jurassic sauropods.

As one of the most well-known herbivorous dinosaurs of the Late Jurassic, Camarasaurus provides important insight into sauropod diversity, feeding strategies, and life alongside apex predators like Allosaurus.
