Premium 3-Piece Vintage Olkusz Smelter Zincite Suite — High-Grade Display LotDescription:
Up for sale is a spectacular, museum-quality 3-piece collector's suite of fiery neon-red/orange Zincite (ZnO). Weighing in at a massive 22 ounces total (~over 634 grams), this lot features three substantial, heavy cabinet specimens that display beautifully together as a complete uniform collection or as high-end standalone centerpieces. This is authentic "old stock" material originating from the famous accidental industrial crystallization event at the Olkusz Zinc Smelter in Silesia, Poland.Unlike modern intentionally lab-grown crystals, these specimens carry a fascinating history. They grew inadvertently via sublimation (direct crystallization from hot, zinc-rich vapors) on the interior masonry and chimney vents of the smelting plant before its closure. Because they grew in a controlled, high-heat industrial environment, they formed exceptionally pure, highly geometric, and razor-sharp crystal habits that cannot be replicated today.
All three pieces are phenomenal examples of stratified growth, showing distinct structural layers: a dense, metallic grey-brown host matrix base, a chalky greenish secondary alteration boundary line, and a thick, unbroken top crust of brilliant, light-catching pyramidal crystals.
