This portion of the study of the BETIO defenses was prepared jointly by the Intelligence Section (D-2) of the Second Marine Division and the Joint Intelligence Center, Pacific Ocean Areas. Tactical discussions and some photographs were provided by D-2 personnel, while other photographs, all drawings, and reproduction were provided by the JICPOA. Some of the illustrations, showing installations before the assault, are from Japanese negatives captured on BETIO.
