An exceptional lot of two (2) rare original, unpublishedJames Baldwin (1924–1987) photographs at his famous home in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France, circa 1986. ​Both photographs originate directly from the archives of poet and photographerShawn Henderson, who lived at the estate with Baldwin during 1985–1986 as a personal assistant and close companion.

• ​James Baldwin & Jeanne Faure Photo: A candid snapshot showing Baldwin relaxing outdoors with his long-time landlady and close friend, Jeanne Faure. Faure, a French-Algerian estate owner, rented space to Baldwin in 1970. Over 17 years, the two formed a legendary bond—so close that Baldwin brought Faure as his personal guest of honor to Paris when he received the Légion d'Honneur from President François Mitterrand in 1986.

• ​Color Exterior View of "Chez Baldwin": This rare color photograph captures an elevated view of Baldwin’s historic 18th-century Provençal stone house and terracotta roof, overlooking the rolling countryside of Saint-Paul-de-Vence.

• Provenance: Sourced directly from the Shawn Henderson archives. Henderson’s private snapshots offer an intimate, behind-the-scenes record of Baldwin’s final years in exile in Southern France.
