FBI Hostage Rescue Team HRT 40th Anniversary Challenge Coin | 1983-2023 | Federal Bureau of Investigation
Celebrate four decades of service, courage, and operational excellence with this impressive FBI Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) 40th Anniversary Challenge Coin, commemorating the unit’s distinguished history from 1983 to 2023. This collectible honors one of the nation’s most highly trained federal tactical units and its enduring commitment to protecting American lives and responding to some of the country’s most dangerous situations.
Established in 1983, the FBI Hostage Rescue Team is the Bureau’s elite full-time counterterrorism tactical unit. Based at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, HRT was created to provide a specialized federal capability for resolving hostage situations, responding to terrorist threats, and conducting high-risk operations. Over the past four decades, the team has developed a reputation for its demanding selection process, extensive training, and commitment to operational readiness.
What makes this challenge coin particularly impressive is its striking design commemorating 40 years of HRT history. One side features a large “40” above a detailed eagle with its wings spread, clutching a chain in its talons. The years 1983 and 2023 appear on either side of the eagle, while a banner at the bottom displays the unit’s Latin motto, “Servare Vitas,” meaning “To Save Lives.”
The reverse features the distinctive Federal Bureau of Investigation seal, surrounded by the words “Department of Justice” and “Federal Bureau of Investigation.” The detailed blue and gold enamel, raised lettering, and antique gold finish give this coin a substantial appearance that reflects the significance of the anniversary it commemorates.
Unlike a standard FBI challenge coin, this piece specifically recognizes the 40th anniversary of the Hostage Rescue Team, making it an especially interesting collectible for those who appreciate the history of federal law enforcement, counterterrorism operations, and specialized tactical units.
Whether you’re a current or former law enforcement professional, FBI enthusiast, military veteran, tactical operations historian, or serious challenge coin collector, this coin represents a distinctive tribute to four decades of service and dedication.
An outstanding addition to any collection of FBI HRT, Hostage Rescue Team, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, federal law enforcement, counterterrorism, or tactical unit challenge coins.
