Opal is a variety of Quartz that lacks a crystal structure, formed when silica combines with water and fills in cracks within host rock. Pink Opal from Peru derives its distinct color from inclusions known as quinones, organic plant-based materials trapped within the silica during the silica\'s structure formation in the Andes Mountains.
