19th‑Century (1885-1895) Brass Charles Osborne & Co. Nautical Signal Device:
$825.00

This piece exhibits a beautifully patinated solid brass frame, wide‑bore flare barrel, and well‑preserved original hardwood grip. This piece bears the crisp maker’s engraving: “CHAS OSBORNE & CO., 10 York Buildings, Adelphi, London W.C.” — a desirable and historically significant address associated with high‑quality British craftsmanship during the late Victorian period.
This piece was made between 1885 - 1895. Osborn first opened a London shop in 1881. The firm moved to the 10 York Buildings, Adelphi address in 1885. In 1899, the firm moved again. In 1896, the company became Charles Osborne & Co. Ltd. - and guns after that date are marked \"Ltd.\".
Maritime signal devices of this type were used aboard merchant vessels, private yachts, and naval craft for communication and emergency signaling. Their distinctive form and brass construction make them highly sought after among collectors of nautical antiques, British maritime history, and Victorian engineering.
This example displays a rich, untouched patina that speaks to its age and authenticity. The mechanical components show the expected wear of a genuine antique, and the piece presents exceptionally well as a display item.
A rare opportunity to acquire a superior example from a respected London maker. A scarce and visually striking example of Victorian maritime equipment, ideal for collectors of naval history, or brass nautical instruments.
