Offered is an original .999 fine silver commemorative medal issued for the historic \"Meeting of the Widows\" ceremony held at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 1, 1997.
This medal commemorates the meeting of the last widely recognized Union and Confederate Civil War widows:
- Mrs. Daisy Anderson, widow of Pvt. Robert B. Anderson, 125th U.S. Colored Troops
- Mrs. Alberta Martin, widow of Pvt. William J. Martin, Company K, 4th Alabama Infantry, C.S.A.
The ceremony took place during the Gettysburg anniversary observances and remains one of the most significant symbolic Civil War remembrance events of the late twentieth century.
