Original Vintage 1995 Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Dessert Menu Hartmann Drive Lebanon Tennessee
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store began in Lebanon, Tennessee, where Dan Evins — then working in his family\'s gasoline business — opened the first store on September 19, 1969, pairing a country store modeled on the ones he knew growing up in rural Tennessee with a restaurant aimed at highway travelers. Early locations sold gasoline alongside the meals and the gift shop, a practice dropped after the 1970s oil embargo, and the chain had grown to thirteen stores from Tennessee to Georgia by 1977. Evins led the company as chief executive until 2001 and stayed on as chairman until 2004; by the time of his death in 2012 Cracker Barrel operated more than 600 restaurants in 42 states.
