Wonderful 1993 Heinz 125th Anniversary commemorative horseradish jar set, reproducing Henry J. Heinz’s elaborate early horseradish packaging from the 1870s.
Commissioned by Heinz and handcrafted by Dalzell-Viking Glass Company of New Martinsville, West Virginia, the clear glass jar features embossed HORSE RADISH lettering and a distinctive covered lid topped by a figural horse head. The original white milk-glass spoon fits through the specially designed notch in the lid.
This example is especially nice because the original presentation box, milk-glass spoon, and Heinz historical insert are all included. The insert explains the history of Henry J. Heinz’s first product—horseradish—as well as the story behind the original jar and this commemorative reproduction.
Jar measures approximately 2-3/4” across × 3-1/4” tall without the lid and approximately 5” tall with the lid in place.
Excellent preowned collectible condition. No chips or cracks noted, including the delicate horse-head finial and ears. The glass and spoon present beautifully. The original box and paper insert show light storage/age wear consistent with their age. Please see photos for the exact condition of all included pieces.
