This artwork turns Suzuki\'s tiny three-wheeler into a full-blown racing monster. A crazed hot-pink mutant with enormous bloodshot eyes, razor teeth and a towering yellow mohawk is hanging onto the handlebars while the little yellow-and-blue Trail Buddy charges through a stadium course.

Huge graffiti-inspired 1984 SUZUKI lettering fills the upper corner, while ALT50 TRAIL BUDDY and MONSTERS ON MACHINES dominate the bottom.

And underneath all that insanity is a genuinely interesting little piece of early ATV history.

1984 Suzuki ALT50 Trail Buddy

The ALT50 Trail Buddy was Suzuki\'s miniature youth three-wheeler, produced for the 1983 and 1984 model years. Period documentation exists for both years, including Suzuki ALT50 owner\'s/service material and a surviving 1983 factory brochure and flyer.

Despite its toy-like proportions, the Trail Buddy was a real gasoline-powered ATV. The 1984 ALT50 used a 49cc two-stroke single-cylinder engine with oil injection, coupled to a single-speed automatic transmission and centrifugal clutch. Starting was handled by a recoil pull starter, so there was no shifting or conventional motorcycle clutch for a young rider to manage.

Power reached the rear axle through an enclosed chain drive, another sensible feature on a machine designed primarily for younger riders.

The chassis was about as simple as an ATV could get. The ALT50 rolled on tiny 6-inch wheels and had no suspension—the balloon-style tires and the rider were essentially responsible for absorbing the bumps. Braking was handled by a drum on the rear axle.

The classic factory appearance is unmistakable: bright yellow bodywork, blue seat and blue/black graphics. That\'s the combination represented in this Monsters on Machines artwork.

A tiny survivor from the three-wheeler era

The ALT50\'s short 1983–1984 production run makes it an interesting survivor from the early ATV boom. Unlike the larger performance-oriented three-wheelers remembered for horsepower and racing, the Trail Buddy occupied the opposite end of the spectrum—a simple little machine intended to introduce younger riders to off-road riding.

They\'re certainly collectible today. A remarkably clean 1984 Suzuki ALT50 Trail Buddy sold for $2,221 in January 2025, showing that even Suzuki\'s tiny 49cc three-wheeler has developed a serious following among vintage ATV collectors.

It\'s also one of those machines that immediately triggers memories for people who grew up around ATVs in the 1980s. The yellow plastics, blue seat, chunky little tires and pull-start two-stroke are pure early-\'80s powersports nostalgia.

That\'s exactly the kind of obscure machine Monsters on Machines is made for.

This print would make a great display piece for a Suzuki collector, ALT50 owner, vintage three-wheeler enthusiast, ATV collector, two-stroke fan or anyone who had a Trail Buddy as their first powered off-road machine.

Perfect for a garage, workshop, man cave, powersports room, game room, office or vintage ATV collection.

This is an original Monsters on Machines artwork photo print. It is not an original Suzuki advertisement, brochure or factory promotional item.
