Sitmar Line - An Australian market, twenty-four page brochure for FAIRSKY\'s fateful 1977-78 cruises which ended abruptly when the ship hit a rock and had to be beached.
Sitmar converted the former WW2 attack carrier into an emigrant ship in the early 1950s. When that business died off in the early 1970s, the FAIRSKY was converted into a cruise liner for Down-Under.
The brochure contains photos of merry passengers enjoying public rooms and sunny decks. Fold-out plans show eight decks in color-coded detail. Tucked into a back pocket is a thirty-two cruise itinerary booklet along with a separate rates fold-out.
Sadly, the FAIRSTAR didn\'t get far into the season before disaster struck. On June 23, 1977, while sailing near Jakarta, the ship was holed on a submerged wreck. The captain had to beach the ship. Fortunately all passengers and crew got off safely. Sitmar decided to scrap the liner but at the last minute she was sold to become a floating casino and hotel. A shipyard fire gutted the FAIRSTAR in November and the hulk was condition.
