Rare original vintage Red Barn restaurant “Big Fish Hungry” promotional paper/cardstock mask, dating to approximately the early to mid-1970s. Measures approximately 9.25 inches tall × 7.75 inches wide at the widest points.
Big Fish Hungry was one of Red Barn’s memorable “Hungries” advertising mascots, alongside Hamburger Hungry and Chicken Hungry. Red Barn introduced the Big Fish Hungry character commercially in 1972 as part of its advertising for fish sandwiches and its broader “When the Hungries Hit” promotional campaign.
This large mask depicts the distinctive Big Fish Hungry character with oversized eyes, broad smiling mouth, and the name “BIG FISH HUNGRY” printed across the lower front.
The mask has die-cut openings for the eyes and mouth, along with small punched holes at either side where an elastic cord or string would originally have been attached. The original cord is no longer present.
The reverse is completely blank.
I have been unable to locate another example of this exact Big Fish Hungry mask in available online archives or sales records. Other Red Barn promotional items featuring the Hungries are known, including toys, rings, advertising pieces, and Halloween-related ephemera, but this particular paper mask appears to be quite scarce.
Condition:
Original vintage condition with expected surface wear, light creasing, scuffs, small scratches and general handling wear from age and use. There are visible crease lines near the upper portion of the mask and other minor imperfections throughout. Side attachment holes remain present, but the original elastic/string is missing. No writing or markings on the reverse.
