Rare Original 1968 Howard Storm / Howard Sobel British Work Permit – London Weekend Television
Fascinating original entertainment-industry document from the personal estate of television director, actor and comedian Howard Storm (born Howard Sobel).
Issued by the British Ministry of Labour / Foreign Labour Division on October 9, 1968, this original permit authorized Storm to work in the United Kingdom for London Weekend Television Ltd.
Most significantly, the document actually identifies him by both his legal and professional names:

His employment is listed as:
“VARIETY ARTISTE COMEDIAN/ENTERTAINER”
The permit was valid until November 21, 1968.
This dates from an important early period in Storm’s career, when he was still primarily known as a stand-up comedian and performer, years before becoming a prolific television director.
During this same period, Howard Storm appeared with Charlie Callas and Joan Rivers on the London Weekend Television production Here Comes Charlie Callas, broadcast on British ITV beginning in December 1968.
Storm subsequently became a major television comedy director, directing 59 episodes of Mork & Mindy, as well as episodes of Rhoda, Laverne & Shirley, Taxi, ALF, Full House, Perfect Strangers, Everybody Loves Raymond and numerous other television productions. He also directed the 1985 Jim Carrey feature Once Bitten.
