A collection of 20 pieces of vintage American conservative political ephemera dating from the late 1960s through 1976.
The lot includes 15 copies of a 1976 campaign brochure for William C. “Bill” Elkins, Conservative Party candidate for the U.S. Congress from New York’s 33rd Congressional District, along with five issues of his independently published newsletter, The Bill Elkins’ Letter.
The newsletters include issues #10 (October 1968), #15 (January 1971), #16 (December 1971, two copies), and #18 (October 1973).
Elkins was an outspoken anti-communist whose writings reflect the American conservative movement of the Cold War era. The newsletters contain discussions of socialism, communism, civil rights, American foreign policy, religion, constitutional government, and the John Birch Society, of which Elkins identifies himself as a member.
The 1976 congressional campaign brochure includes Elkins’ photograph, biography, political platform, and a map of New York’s 33rd Congressional District.
An interesting group of original political material documenting grassroots conservative activism, anti-communist organizing, and the political climate of the 1960s and 1970s.
20 pieces total, including duplicates as described.
Condition varies, with age toning, scattered staining, folds, and occasional staple marks. Some newsletters show uneven printing and ink transfer. Please see photographs for details.
