This sale is for an extraordinary piece of World's Fair memorabilia: A new vintage 1964–1965 New York World's Fair Welcome Visitors Banner/Poster, complete with the Unisphere logo.
This item was found stored with several of these banners that had been on display but this one was clearly put away for safekeeping. The heavy vinyl banner measures 36" (91 cm) in width and 15" (38 cm) in height.
The striking vinyl banner is in flawless condition and was obtained directly from Berkey Photo.
Berkey Photo was the official photo processing service at the World's Fair. The company had been founded by Ben Berkey in 1932 as a photographic accessories distributor and photo processor. It ceased operations in 1988 and represented many storied names in its half century of existence including Accura, Keystone, Konica, Omega, Rodenstock, and Silk.
The1964–1965 New York World's Fairwas a world's fairthat hosted over 140 pavilions and 110 restaurants representing 80 nations, 24U.S. states, and 45 corporations at Flushing Meadows Park in Queens, New York City. The fair covered 646 acres (2.61 square km) and included numerous pools, fountains, and an amusement park with rides.
The fair is considered a showcase of mid-twentieth century American culture, deisgn, and technology.
