Original Vintage 1960s Purple Tree Lounge Restaurant Menu Manger Hamilton Hotel Washington DC
The Purple Tree Lounge opened in 1950 inside the Manger Hamilton Hotel at 14th and K Streets NW in Washington, created when Manger Hotels bought the property and remodeled the hotel\'s original Rainbow Room cocktail lounge. Named for the artificial purple tree standing at its center, it was modeled on a similar lounge at New York\'s Vanderbilt Hotel. The Beaux-Arts hotel — designed by Jules Henri de Sibour and opened in 1922 — still stands and became the independent Hamilton Hotel in 2017, reopening after a renovation in June 2019, but the mid-century lounge itself is long gone.
