Extremely scarce1958 Rainier Beer “Rainier Waltz” advertising production record, prepared through Seattle advertising agencyMiller, Mackay, Hoeck & Hartungand identified on the label asDisc #56.
This unusual translucent red33⅓ RPM one-sided recordis marked“NOT FOR SALE NOR FOR BROADCAST”and“Start Outside.”The recorded side contains six differentRainier Waltzcuts/arrangements:
Vinyl isVGwith visible surface marks and scratches on both sides. The complete recorded side has been play tested. It plays well overall with relatively light surface noise considering the visual condition. There isone small skipand one section with a repeated pop lasting approximately40 seconds. Aside from those noted areas, playback is strong.
Playback note:This is not laid out like a conventional commercial LP. The label states“Start Outside.”On my automatic turntable, the tonearm had to be manually positioned at the beginning of the recorded groove to start playback. When playback was finished, the tonearm also had to be manually lifted and returned.
The original label remains very legible and identifiesRainier Beeras the client, along with the 1958 date, Disc #56 designation, speed, agency information, and individual cuts.
I have researched this record extensively and havenot been able to locate another example of this specific 1958 Rainier Beer Disc #56currently offered or previously documented online. Production quantity is unknown, so I am not claiming it to be one-of-a-kind, but it appears to be an exceptionally scarce surviving piece ofRainier Beer, Seattle advertising, breweriana, and Pacific Northwest history.
No original cover or jacket is included.The record was found housed in an unrelated cover and will be shipped in a random protective record jacket for safe storage and shipping.
