This Vintage 1956 Schatz 400 Day #53 Anniversary Clock is a beautifully crafted piece from Germany, featuring a brass frame and glass and brass case. The clock is a classic carriage lantern shape with an circular face with analog display with Roman numerals. The clock is powered by a wind-up mechanical movement and boasts unique features such as a pendulum release lever, adjustable balancing feet, and a silver-toned face with gold numbers. With its vintage charm and mid-20th-century colonial themed design, this clock adds a touch of elegance to any room in your home or office.
This is a vintage Schatz \"London Coach\" 400-day torsion anniversary clock, manufactured in Germany during the mid-1950s.
Key Characteristics
• Model: Often referred to as the \"London Coach\" style or Model 53 due to its carriage-shaped brass and beveled glass casing.
• Mechanism: It features a mechanical torsion pendulum movement consisting of a four-ball rotating pendulum underneath the dial. It is wound by a specialized key and designed to run for up to 400 days on a single full wind. The gears and back mount are not magnetic and appear to be brass too. They are stamped \"Aug. Schatz & Sohne Germany 53\" and \"Two (2) Jewels Unajusted\".
• Dial: The silverized finished metal dial features Roman numerals with gold toned hands and is marked \"Schatz\" near the top center and \"400\" near the bottom with \"Made in Germany\".
- Base - cast metal with gold tone finish. Has adjustable feet for balance and a pendulum release lever. There are swivel hook shaped latches to open and lock the case in place.
This clock is untested because I do not have a key that can fit to wind it. I suspect it needs work though so plan to tinker! The glass case does have scratches on the glass on the sides but more noticeably on the front where the dial is close to the case. The dial face has age and wear as pictured. The gears seem very clean, the pendulum string needs length adjustment. The pendulum has light patina as pictured.
The clock is 8.25 inches tall, 5.3 inches long, 4.5 inches wide. The clock face is 3 inches in diameter.
