Published during a pivotal period in American experimental aviation, these substantial hardcover volumes document the military and civilian personnel, aircraft, facilities, research programs and flight-testing operations conducted at Edwards Air Force Base.
The especially desirable 1957 volume pictures and identifies three men who would soon be selected among America’s original Mercury Seven astronauts:

- Gordon Cooper
- Donald “Deke” Slayton
Both books contain extensive period photography of pilots, officers, technicians, personnel, experimental aircraft, missiles, radar equipment, engineering operations and Edwards AFB facilities. They offer an exceptional firsthand record of the environment from which America’s early space program and astronaut corps emerged.
