Original 1953 Marilyn Monroe Pin-Ups magazine published by MACO Magazine Corporation, complete and in Very Good condition, featuring the highly collectible Recalled Edition.
This is the version collectors specifically seek because it contains the controversial black-and-white “Casual Monroe” section. The original 35¢ cover price, brilliant red background and full-length Marilyn image create one of the most recognizable Marilyn Monroe magazine covers of the 1950s.
THE RECALLED EDITION
The important distinction is inside.
This Recalled Edition contains the “Casual Monroe” section featuring Marilyn photographed in a white blouse without a bra. The photographs were considered sufficiently provocative at the time that this version was recalled and a revised edition was subsequently issued.
That publishing history separates this copy from the later version and gives the original Recalled Edition considerably greater collector interest.
WHY THIS MAGAZINE MATTERS
Published in 1953, this magazine appeared during the extraordinary period when Marilyn Monroe was rapidly becoming one of the world's most recognizable movie stars.
Unlike magazines that simply placed Marilyn on a cover, Marilyn Monroe Pin-Ups was devoted to her. The publication combines early Marilyn photography, unmistakable 1950s graphics and the fascinating history of the recalled first version.
Seventy-three years later, finding an original, complete Recalled Edition with strong overall presentation is what makes an example such as this worth pursuing.
