Original vintage 8 x 10 black-and-white photograph showing the interior of a Pennsylvania Railroad coach-bar lounge car, photographed in October 1949.
The image provides an excellent view of the car’s streamlined postwar lounge interior, including upholstered lounge seating, individual tables, window blinds, overhead lighting and the bar/service area at the end of the car.
The reverse is period annotated:
“PRR Coach-Bar Lounge Car – Lounge & Bar Section – Oct 49”
Additional handwritten notation appears to identify the equipment as PRR 2216 and references a 28-seat coach/bar arrangement.
The reverse also carries a period photographer’s stamp:
Photograph by Art Dressler
Philadelphia, PA
This is an especially attractive image for collectors interested in Pennsylvania Railroad passenger service, postwar streamlined railroad interiors, lounge and bar cars, Pullman-era passenger equipment and railroad dining/service history.
Size: approximately 8" x 10"
Date: October 1949
Railroad: Pennsylvania Railroad / PRR
Subject: Coach-Bar Lounge Car Interior
Photographer: Art Dressler, Philadelphia
Condition: Vintage photograph with normal age-related handling and storage wear. Reverse contains original photographer’s stamp and period handwritten identification. Some light discoloration, marks or minor surface wear may be present. Please review all photographs for exact condition.
The reverse markings are a particularly nice feature because they provide contemporary identification and dating rather than a later collector attribution.
