What a rare and unique find this is! This booklet was produced in 1948 with composite photos of the different operations of the Western State Mental Health facility / asylum in Fort Steilacoom, WA. This 8 inch by 10 inch document features 12 photo (slick paper) montages. Each montage shows different facets such as interior and exterior facilities and grounds, administrative staff, records department, nursing staff, visiting, dining, sleeping, doctors and examination rooms, gardens, and food production (complete with live and not so live food stock photos). This is a complete view of a 1940s era mental institution to include faces and uniforms/dress of the various staff, period furniture and amenities, and large scale operations.
This is in fantastic shape with very minimal edge wear, no bends, excellent binding, no cover fading or rubbing. The only mark to note is on the rear cover where it looks like someone used a sharpie to cover up a price. It does have 2 red stock pages in back, presumably an error or to make booklet more rigid.
I would think this was not produced in high volume and looks to have been costly at the time to produce this album with all of the individual photos to make up the document. An absolutely fantastic find. Thanks for looking.
