1948 De La Rue Aron Electricity Meter 1898–1948 Twin Pack Playing Cards
A vintage 1948 De La Rue twin pack of playing cards, produced for Aron Electricity Meter Ltd to commemorate the company\'s 50th anniversary, 1898–1948.
The set contains two contrasting decks in the original faux-crocodile-effect presentation box:
- Black deck – 1898: featuring period imagery including an early automobile, croquet, an early telephone/telegraph apparatus and period lighting.
- Red deck – 1948: featuring contemporary 1940s imagery including a tennis player, streamlined automobile, box camera and desk telephone.
The two decks appear to have been designed to illustrate the changing world and technological progress between 1898 and 1948, making this an interesting piece of mid-century corporate advertising as well as a vintage playing-card set.
The cards were manufactured by Thomas De La Rue & Co. Ltd, London.
The Ace of Spades carries the period “Duty Three Pence” wording together with the De La Rue & Co. Ltd London inscription.
The cards have been opened and used and show signs of age and vintage wear.
The original faux-crocodile-effect twin-pack box is included and also shows signs of age and use.
This is a vintage item and is being sold in its existing condition.
