Up for sale/sale is a wonderful piece of mid-century Pennsylvania political ephemera. This is an original, engraved formal invitation issued by Pennsylvania Governor James H. Duff and Mrs. Duff, inviting Senator and Mrs. Martin (Edward Martin, former PA Governor turned U.S. Senator) to a formal dinner at the Executive Mansion on Monday, March 10, 1947, to meet the Superior Court of Pennsylvania.
Features: Embossed state coat of arms at the top, elegant script lettering, fill-in-the-blank details filled out by hand for the date and time ("Monday, the tenth of March" at "seven-thirty"), and the dress code noted as "Tuxedo" in the bottom right corner.
Bonus Provenance: Features contemporary handwritten ink notes at the top right: "Accepted 2/25/47 / L.m.B.", confirming the exact date the response was recorded.
