Vintage 1946 LiCoHi yearbook from Litchfield Community High School, District 152A, Litchfield, Illinois.
This is an especially interesting commemorative edition celebrating an important milestone in the history of the Litchfield schools.
According to the Foreword, the yearbook staff began work two years earlier to compile a history of the schools. The resulting 1946 LiCoHi was created as a pictorial and historical book and was dedicated to Litchfield High School\'s first graduating class of 1871, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1946.
In addition to the usual 1946 senior portraits, clubs, activities, athletics and candid photographs, this edition contains wonderful historical material from earlier generations of Litchfield students.
Highlights pictured include:
• Early graduating classes beginning with class of 1885
• Historic 1902 baseball team
• 1902 track team
• 1921 football team
• Early school buildings
• Historical photographs of Litchfield, Illinois
• 1920s street scenes with storefronts and early automobiles
• 1946 seniors, clubs, Future Farmers of America, athletics and school activities
• May Queen and attendants
• Period advertisements and local business history
• Numerous candid photographs showing student life immediately after World War II
The historical photographs make this yearbook particularly appealing for genealogy, Litchfield and Montgomery County Illinois history, early education history, antique sports photography and local history research.
The book shows age-related wear, particularly at the cover corners and edges, including loss/wear to some of the original cover decoration. Interior pages remain quite attractive overall. Please review all photographs for condition and examples of the contents.
A fascinating 1946 yearbook that serves not only as a record of one graduating class, but as a photographic retrospective of approximately 75 years of Litchfield school history.
