A SECRET Air and Gunnery Target Map for the island of Iwo Higashi, off Iwo Jima. This is an Advance Copy / Special Map marked SECRET. It was made from Navy sorties in 1943, one note explains. It is page 2 of 2 of an Iwo Jima pre-invasion map. The island is small and hard to find in modern atlases. It would not be in the Target Map if Japanese forces were not there, and I wonder if it were not erased during the campaign. The map measures about 22 1/2" x 20".
Fair to Good condition as shown. There is edge wear, staining, wrinkling and and corner folding. The map was originally folded and then rolled. The colors are still bright. There are no tears. The map is not brittle and can be handled without fear.Displays really well.
