Heavy 1943 Warren Axe & Tool Co. Old Faithful single-bit axe with the desirable W43 date stamp. Made in Warren, Pennsylvania, this is a large Michigan-pattern chopping/felling axe with a broad 5 1/2” cutting edge and substantial 8 1/2” head.
The axe weighs 6 lb 4 oz overall. Based on the overall weight and size, the head is large, the exact head-only weight has not been measured because it remains securely hung on the handle.
The head is clearly stamped OLD FAITHFUL / WARREN AXE and W43 on the opposite side. The W43 marking dates this example to 1943.
The steel has been cleaned while retaining normal age-related patina, marks, and surface character. The cutting edge retains substantial material. The poll shows old striking wear and deformation consistent with use. The 32” wood handle is solid and has an attractive traditional curved profile with a pronounced swell. It appears to be an older handle, but its originality to the head is unknown.
A substantial WWII-era American axe and an excellent example for a Warren, Old Faithful, logging, forestry, or vintage edge-tool collection.

CONDITION
Vintage used condition. Head is solid and securely hung. Clear Old Faithful Warren Axe and W43 markings. Cutting edge retains substantial steel. Poll has visible old hammering/mushrooming and surface wear. Head shows scratches, small pits, discoloration, and other normal signs of age and use. Wood handle has typical wear, staining, and handling marks but appears solid. Exact head-only weight has not been measured.
