Dating to the 1940s, this exceptional piece features a deeply carved, traditional geometric Morning Star motif rooted in Lakota heritage. It was executed using the meticulous sgraffito technique, where a cream slip is hand-carved away to reveal the contrasting, rich brown native red clay underneath, finished with a smooth high-gloss glaze.The base of the plate features clean, hand-incised workshop markings, including the signature pine tree and ridge logo, "Pine Ridge", and "Sioux Indian". It is clearly signed by the iconic, award-winning Oglala Lakota master potter Ella Irving under her 1940s married name, E. Cox.Condition:
