Vintage circa 1940s cocktail and drink menu from the Cricket Club Cafe, located at 1571 W. Washington Boulevard in Los Angeles, described on the cover as being “In the Center of Film Row.” The club advertised dining and dancing, Chinese and American dishes, cocktails, dance orchestras and three floor shows nightly at 10:00 p.m., 11:30 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. The proprietor is identified only as “Smiling Sam.” The Cricket Club Cafe appears in a 1947 Los Angeles telephone directory at this same address, supporting the 1940s dating.
The interior lists a wide selection of period cocktails, whiskey, rye, Scotch, cordials, wine, champagne, beer and ale, with most drinks priced between 25 and 85 cents. Several prices were adjusted by hand. The menu shows overall toning, staining and discoloration, particularly along the bottom and outer edges, with light creasing, handling wear and minor edge wear.
